Bio
Dr. Schaufele grew up in Germany and received his Medical Doctor from the University of Frankfurt in 1992. He completed internships in General Surgery in Friedrichshafen/ Germany and Internal Medicine in Grand Rapids/ Michigan. He served as resident and chief resident in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School in Boston from 1995 to 1998. After his residency, he pursued two more years of advanced training in spine care at the renowned Spine Center in Munich Harlaching in Germany. During that time, Dr. Schaufele was also named director of non-surgical spine services.
In 2000, he joined the faculty of the Emory Spine Center in Atlanta, where he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. He served as Residency Program Director and the supervising physician for Emory’s pain fellowship rotation at the Emory Spine Center. He has personally trained more than 50 residents and fellows in spine care and interventional pain management during his academic career.
Dr. Schaufele has served extensively as faculty and lecturer on national and international courses and meetings. He is an active member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the North American Spine Society, the International Spinal Injection Society, and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He has held multiple positions on national committees and boards. He has authored 25 scientific papers, 39 abstracts and 9 book chapters. He was involved as the principal investigator in several clinical trials evaluating innovative interventional spine procedures and conservative treatments for spinal pain.
Dr. Schaufele is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He holds a subspecialty certification in Pain Medicine through the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Schaufele is married with three children. He holds a commercial pilot license and enjoys biking, golf and skiing.
Pain Solutions Treatment Centers has offices in Marietta, Woodstock, Hiram and Cartersville. The practice also operates two fully licensed and certified Ambulatory Surgical Centers in Marietta and Cartersville.
